Is there such a thing as a honorable lie. The bible clearly states God forbid lying of any kind. Do lies come in colors? A white lie for instance? Proverbs 12:19 clearly states “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” In the Book of Exodus Pharaoh gave all midwives a direct order to kill all new born males (Exodus 1:15-22). They disobeyed Pharaoh Orders and told him a lie instead when he asked for an explanation because they feared God. They were also rewarded by God for protecting any male babies born under their watch.
Rehab the harlot lied to the King of Jericho men to save the Israelite spies all she wanted in return was her life and her family lives spared ( Joshua 2: 2-13). Here is one more in 1 Samuel David is running from King Saul during his travels he stop by the tabernacle. He lies to the priest by telling him he is on a secret mission for the king; his reasoning for doing this was he wanted King Saul to have an alibi. You will have to read the story to get this one (1 Samuel 21:1-3). There are many more scriptures and stories that fall into the same category. Do God favor some lies and despise others. Maybe he has a favorite color for lies and he categorizes them? Is it ok to lie to protect your family or save someone’s life? CWL would love to hear your thoughts on this one.

Wow! That is a good question. But I believe that the answer lies in scripture. God may be incapable of lying and this is in black and white…but we are human…and therefore prone to fault and our God understands this. After all, He made us. There are many gray areas in the Bible. What I mean by gray is that it is subject to whomever is interpreting the Word. We can read the Bible from cover to cover at various intervals in our lives, and take away a different meaning every time.
Does God want us to lie? I believe that He doesn’t. But will he forgive us when we do? As long as we come before Him with a repentant heart, then the answer is yes.
Great response.
